Mouth Hagen Festival 2017

August 15:

Arival in Jayapura, meet up and breakfast first then proceed to cross border to Vanimo. Stay night in Vanimo.

August 16 : Vanimo - POM/Wewak - Hagen

Long flight journey from Border up to Port Moresby/Wewak for transit then continue to Hagen.

August 17 - 18 :

After breakfast spend the full days to explore around Mt Hagen region, visiting remote village, meet the locals and hunting in local market. If possible setting Traditional sing-sing by villagers for Pictures purpose. Return to the hotel in the afternoon and overnight. (BLD)

August 19- 20 :  FESTIVAL DAY

Show Ground  Spend these three days enjoying the show festivity. Each morning after breakfast you will be transferred from the hotel to the showground and into the main traditional sing-sing arena where you will becaptivated by the cultural extravaganza displayed by hundreds of different tribes of PNG. Your lunch for these three days will be picnic lunch. In the afternoon drive back to the lodge and overnight. (BLD)

•  Conditions in the Field:

1. If you take land border its gonna be long road to go as its take more than 6 hours in the road to reach Port Moresby but its good to see around as New Guinea is the second largest island in the world after Greenland.

2. There are another way to reach PNG for some of you who don’t want to take land border ways, flying from Denpasar with Air Niugini (PNG Flag Carrier) direct to Port Moresby/Jackson International Airport but they are NOT served from Jakarta.

3. Visa On Arrival, NOT valid for Indonesians so you should apply it far from the date of departure in their Embassy in Jakarta or Consulate Office in Denpasar. If you need us to manage it for you, please sent all the document needed to us with passport still valid at least in 6 month.

4. Landscape, Weather and the environment around Mount Hagen almost the same with Baliem Valley - Wamena. Dry in the afternoon and a bit cool in the night as there are located in highland range. Please prepare your gear and prover clothing.

5.  Call your Bank before leaving country for any transaction using credit card, better prepare enough cash to avoid not successful transaction by using it specially in the small region like Mt Hagen but it’s ‘a bit’ work in Port Moresby and in the Jackson Int Airport.

6. Mt. Hagen, Wewak and Vanimo town is a small town that does not have many
accommodation options sometime, especially when the festival took place sometimes
difficult to find a hotel room, for it did eventually pay your Down Payment. Not much
Star Hotel Accommodation, only standard Hotel but clean and relatively comfortable
& Safe for the Rest.

7. Toilet conditions, along the way to Festival and in the Traditional village,its hard to found clean toilet(sometime),we Suggest for women do not forget to always be ready Tissue in your bag.

8. Remind tourist sites and event we will visit are very influential with the weather factors that exist, then we beg to remind each other cooperation and maintain.

9. Throughout the festival takes place, we'll give you the freedom to exploration the festival with free. Please keep all your luggage each and remember where the meeting point set by the organizers to meet up with your group.

10.  Remind strong political factors and PNG reputation as famous with Bad country in security sectors, for all the safety reasons we are NOT allowed you to go alone everywhere in the city around without permission from the organizer. Then Please pay high attention for all your belongings, money and your travel documents, specially in Public and Festival Arena.

1. Drinking anti-malaria drug, at least 2 weeks before departure. Repeat every week on the same day during your trip. 2 tablets per week after meals, is sufficient to prevent Malaria parasites develop in your body. Continue this dose upon arrival at home, up to 4 weeks after your return home. These tablets are sold freely in pharmacies. The drug is widely available in pharmacies with a variety of brands, recommendation: Malarone, Cloroquin, Docycyclin, Pills Kina, Recocin-bayern.

2. Always Bring A Cash, along the journey difficult ATM machines meet so bring enough cash but in POM you still can found Visa - Master Machine from International Bank.

3. In Mt. Hagen Festival, you can easily found their authentic stuff as local souvenirs such as carvings and paintings made of wood that high art so prepare the budget to buy this one.

4. Prepare a budget for each of your photo shooting session, because here photographing must pay (even in Festival Arena). Ask for permission in advance to anyone who you wants take for your pictures, if he asked for some money ask first how much he asked for even sometime by prepared candy/lollipop (for kids) and cigarettes bit work in approaching. So, exchanged, and prepare a small fraction of money before your departure.

5. For Non Indonesia, send a copy of your passport, passport photo and Indonesia Work
Permits (If you have) to the Organizer in advance before the day of departure. Because we
need to prepare special permit for your visit in Papua, please bring your passport and travel
along this trip. Never left at your hotel. (It takes a special permit from the Police Office in
Jayapura for Foreign Tourists remind of strong political factors are still exist in here)
